The raffle was then drawn and 12 lucky ladies went home with one of the lovely prizes including a beautiful iced Christmas cake made by Heather Ros our Social Events Sub-committee Chairmen

Desserts of tradtional Christmas Pudding and Brandy Sauce or Fruit and cream pavlova were served with tea & coffee and members then settled down to listen to Anne's talk about how she became a writer of historical fiction, she told us that there were some fascinating women in medieval times and that she also drew inspiration from her local area.

BRAMHOPE ROLLING SCONES WI - 1ST ANNIVERSARY

Bramhope Rolling Scones WI have just celebrated their 1st Anniversary.

The cloth shown in the pictures was givng to them by the West Yorkshire Federation and had been made by members of  the orignal Bramhope WI which closed sometime before 1983 when the Yorkshire Federation was split up to form 5 new Federations!

The members all had a great evening and we send our best wishes for the future.

ROUNDHAY WI 25TH BIRTHDAY!

It was 25 years almost to the day when President Pauline Buckley and ex-President Joan Bowers cut the cake to start the ball rolling for the silver anniversary of Roundhay WI on the 9th October, 2014.

The evenings theme of 'Inspiring Women' reflected the choice of the NFWI which celebrates its centenary in 2015.

A lively evening of poetry, pate and prose followed a suitable heartfelt rendition of 'Happy Birthday to Us'  Poems read, a quiz on inspiring women, a free raffle, a game of stand up sit down bingo all added to the fun, with the highlight being a quintet singing about 'their favourite things', but with a marked, age related difference!!  All this before members and visitors alike tucked into the buffet provided.

From the start Roundhay WI proved to be successful and lively, attracting nearly 40 members at the first official meeting, all of whom paid the princely sum of £7.50 to join!  Manty of the talks and activities which took place in those early years are still replicated in some way today.  25 years ago there were 'knit ins', whist drives, games evenings and a variety of talks on such things as first aid, clocks and watches, local government and wine tasting.  Today there are interest groups such a strolling, 'meat and eat', dicussion and crafts.  Talks in the coming months with include photography, blue plaques, the fun side of banking and hand bells.

The anniversary evening was thoroughly enjoyed by both members and visitors and proved to be a fitting celebration of 25 successful years.  Long may Roundhay WI continue!

CRAFTY LADIES NEEDED!
