KIRKHEATON WI CELEBRATION

Kirkheaton WI had a stall at Mirfield Show on August 23rd.

They had a very successful day, promoting the WI and celebrating the centenary.

Over 10,000 people attended the show and I am pleased to say many ladies showed an interest in the WI and enjoyed our cakes too!!

SHEPLEY WIs' CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS!

On June 16th 2015 Shepley WI hosted a Tea Party and invited neighbouring WIs.

It was a lovely afternoon and we recalled that on June 16th 1915 a meeting held in North Wales sowed the seeds for the formation of the first WI in that same village on September 16th 1915.

CHRISTMAS PREPARATIONS START EARLY WITH THE WI!

On a rather dull August day, 13 members from Institutes across the Federation came together at the Federation Office to make Rag Rug Christmas Trees.

They used scraps of fabric and ribbon with hessian and a proddy tool to create their own trees under the instruction of our tutor Christine Meredith.

As you can see from the photos and comments below they all had a great day.

'Enjoyed it very much, first playtime - enjoyed myself and want to come again' - Nostell WI

'Lots of fund with little cost, great hobby' - Thornhill WI

'Really good day, everyone very friendly and supportive' - Roberttown & District WI

'My first craft class, it was a wonderful experience, can't wait to come back' - Shibden WI

KIPLIN HALL AND 100 SHADES OF GREEN!

WELL - WHAT A WEEKEND!

1000's of members headed up to Kiplin Hall in Scorton in North Yorkshire to see the fabulous display created by hundreds of WI members.

Nine Northern Federations took part and each had space in this wonderful Jacobean Hall available for their members 100 Shades of Green creations and they did not disappoint.

Here is just a small selection of photos from the West Yorkshire members

The craft creations will be on display at ourforthcoming Autumn Council Meeting where members will be able to judge their winner and they will displayed again at the Harrogate Knitting & Stitching Show so the public from far and wide can enjoy the many craft talents of WI members.

COME SEW WITH ME!

A small group of members are meeting once a month with tutor Maureen Hancox for our popular Come Sew with Me course.

They have made brilliant progress so far and we can't wait to see what else they produce over the next few months.

UP, UP AND AWAY WITH THE WI!

Clear skies and sunshine greeted members and four husabands as we arrived for the Gliding Experience at Sutton Bank Gliding Club.

Safety instructions and a practical demonstration on wearing a parachute followed before meeting our personal pilots.

After climbing (with difficulty and somewhat inelegantly) into the front of the glider we were firmly strapped in.  We were then towed to a height of 2000 feet before the glider was released from the tow.
Finding a rising thermal we reach almost 3000 feet - wonderful views of the countryside opened up, a chance to take the controls and all too soon time was up and we prepared to land.

Down to earth we met up with other members who had preferred to keep their feet firmly on the ground and all enjoyed an excellent post flight supper in the club house.

Comments included:-
