Our Hebridian Adventure by Heather Ross

On September 9th, 39 members, family and friends embarked on a Hebridean Adventure. This comprised of 2 nights in Fort William, 2 nights in Stornaway, 2 nights on Benbecula and a final night back in Fort William. Our visits included a guided tour of Glencoe followed with a train journey over the wild and beautiful Rannock Moor. On our return, some of us toured the local distillery ending with a taste of the amber nectar.
We visited ancient standing stones, a Black House Museum and saw a demonstration of weaving Harris Tweed.

There were seals on the beach behind the hotel on Benbecula. Unfortunately we were unable to visit South Uist as the booking office for the ferry failed to say that the coach was too long, Kevin did try but no luck. (The week before a coach did get stuck and had to wait till the next high tide before it and the ferry were free).

In his usual calm way, Kevin was on his phone and had a lunch arranged with a local group and in a short while we were sitting down to home made soup, sandwiches and cakes followed with a visit to a shop which sold just about everything.

Our journey back to Fort William was interesting, we were told to expect gale force winds and interruptions to the ferries. Luckily, we were able to sail but crossing Skye, Scotland threw every kind of weather it could at us. Waking up on our last morning we were greeted with snow on the tops of the mountains like icing on the top of a cake, a perfect end to a lovely holiday.

I am now looking forward to this time next year when we will be visiting the Ring of Kerry in southern Ireland.
