This month we have events from the Home Economics Commitee, Social Events Committee and Arts & Leisure Committee. 

Dress Making

We are hosting a Dressmaking workshop at the Federation Office on Tuesday 3rd June. From 10am participants will be able to design a top or a dress. You will learn how to use and read a pattern as well as revamp you skills through the making of clothes. 

This workshop is suitable for everyone and there is still some space available for anyone that is interested.  


Summer Lunch - 19th June - FULL

The Summer Lunch is now full and we hope everyone has a great day on the 19th June. The ladies who are lunching will enjoy a talk from Lucy Adlington, who will be speaking about art deco and Agatha Christie. As this has been so popular we have just started planning our Summer Lunch for 2015. Book early and don't miss out!

This month, learn how to create a cushion cover with the cathedral window technique. This workshop is suitable for beginners, who can use a sewing machine and only 3 spaces left. 


Village Secrets (Bardsey) - 26th June - FULL

This event was very popular and filled up very quickly. On the day, the members will be visiting different places in the village of Bardsey to learn its history as well as enjoy a speaker and lunch and the local pub. The Federation are thinking of organising more village secrets events in other places in West Yorkshire. Please contact us with your thoughts.

National Countryside Week

From 13th to 20 July 2014, The Prince's Countryside Fund will be running the National Countryside Week. This week aims to raise awareness of the how important the countryside is and any issues that are facing communities and farmers in rural areas. 

The Fund is encouraging people to 'Walk a Mile' in support of the countryside.

We must remind you that WIs cannot raise funds for these kinds of projects, however individuals are encouraged to join in.

Community Energy Fortnight

Between the 13th & 28th September 2014, the Community Energy Fortnight will be taking place. This event will host many activities across the UK and give people the opportunity to explore the communities who generate and save energy.

Healthy Eating Week 

From 2nd to 6th June it is Healthy Eating Week. We encourage everyone to cut down on the goodies and eat extremely well for the first week in June.

Our Week With The Centenary Baton!

We had an excellent week with the Women's Institute Centenary Baton. It went all over our Federation to contribute to many celebrations and special guest appearances.

30th April @ 2pm - The Centenary Baton arrived from North Yorkshire West Federation at Ilkley Moor.

30th April @ 7pm - Our Lower Wharfedale Group held an evening at Pool In Wharfedale Village Hall with Saltaire Historian Maria Golt.

1st May @ 10am - Our Golden Plover Group held a coffee morning at Scarcroft Village Hall.

1st May @ 7.30pm - Our Bronte Group held an evening meeting at St Paul's Methodist Church Hall with Yorkshire Evening Post writer Sue Woodcock and a competition on the Tour De France.

2nd May @ 10.30am - Marsden WI held a coffee morning at Marsden United Reform Church with MP Jason McCartney.

2nd May @ 2pm - Farnley Tyas, Stocksmoor and Kirkheaton WI welcomed the Mayor of Kirklees Clr Martyn Bolt to their afternoon tea at Croft House.

2nd May @ 7.30pm - Tea & Tarts WI held a Cocktails, Canap├ęs & Cabaret evening at the Packhorse Gallery.

3rd May @ 10am - Morton WI hosted the Federation's annual Spring Ramble with the baton.

4th May @ 3pm - Mytholmroyd Marmaladies held an afternoon tea at St Michael's Church.

5th May @ 10.30am - The Federation Office hosted a full day of fun with refreshments, craft demonstrations and yarn bombing as well as a visit from MP Stuart Andrew.

6th May @10am - Durkar WI held a coffee morning at Crigglestone Methodist Church.

7th May @ 10am - Clayton West WI held a coffee morning with scones at United Reform Church School Room.

7th May @ 1pm - The South Pennine Group had lunch at Denby Dale Pie with Mayor of Kirklees Clr Martyn Bolt and Deputy Lord Lieutenant Dr Ingrid Roscoe before it was passed onto the South Yorkshire Federation of Women's Institutes.
